About the Menzies Foundation

Introduction

In 1978, the Sir Robert Menzies Memorial Trust Appeal raised $6.2 million.  The funds were invested and the Trust created its principal memorial - a non-political, not-for-profit organisation called the Sir Robert Menzies Memorial Foundation to promote excellence in health research, education and post graduate scholarship by Australians. Since 1979, the Menzies Foundation has expended approximately $20 million from investment income on a program of initiatives which have included:

Form of Bequest

Clarification

The Sir Robert Menzies Memorial Foundation Limited is a non-profit, non-political organisation created to promote excellence in health research, education and post graduate scholarship by Australians.  It has no relationship whatsoever with The Menzies Research Centre Ltd.

In recent years the Menzies Foundation has been wrongly identified as a “political think tank” in the media. The confusion has arisen since the establishment in 1994 of the Menzies Research Centre as “an independent think tank, affiliated with the Liberal Party of Australia” which aims “to undertake research into policy issues”. That Centre is based at the Liberal Party’s headquarters in Canberra and is not in any way associated with the Menzies Foundation which was established by the Sir Robert Menzies Memorial Trust in 1979.
