MAJA CASSIDY

2008 Robert Gordon Menzies Scholarship to Harvard University

Ms Maja Cassidy, a Masters student at the University of New South Wales, graduated with 1st Class Honours in Electrical Engineering.

She will undertake a Doctorate in Applied Physics in the School of Engineering and Applied Science.  Maja has undertaken research on developing high frequency readout systems for quantum computing devices.

DR ANGELA CHANG

2002 Menzies Scholar in the Allied Health Sciences

Dr Angela Chang holds the degree of Bachelor of Physiotherapy with First Class Honours and the University Medal from the University of Queensland.  Her PhD project entitled “The effect of physiotherapy intervention in slow to wean intensive care patients” was carried out in the Department of Physiotherapy, University of Queensland.

Dr Chang lectures in Physiotherapy at the University of Queensland.

ANDY CHIEN

2005 Menzies Scholar in the Allied Health Sciences

Andy Chien holds the degree of Bachelor of Physiotherapy with First Class Honours from the University of Queensland.

Andy's PhD project is entitled "Identification of minor neuropathy in whiplash associated disorders".  The incidence of whiplash associated disorders (WAD) has risen dramatically in Australia.  Up to 40% of injured patients will develop chronic symptoms and associated disability, resulting in substantial economic and personal costs.  The pathophysiology underlying whiplash pain and persistent symptoms remains unclear and the lack of understanding of the mechanisms is an important factor preventing the development of effective treatment strategies.

KATIE CONNOLLY

2005 RG Menzies Scholarship to Harvard University

Katie is a graduate of the University of Queensland, where she gained a Bachelor of Arts majoring in English and Media Studies and was awarded a Dean’s Commendation for High Achievement. Katie completed her honours year at the University of Melbourne and received a grade of first class for her thesis entitled “East Timor and the Politics of Popular Meanings”. Katie’s thesis explored how public representations of Australian intervention in the East Timor crisis of 1999 served to crystallise perceptions of national identity and cultural citizenship.

Katie is undertaking the Master of Public Policy program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government and specializing in International Trade and Finance.
