Reflections of the 2022 Menzies Communications Intern, Ella Paine

Reflecting on my experience as Communications Assistant at Menzies Foundation, I am filled with an immense sense of gratitude and pride. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with an incredibly talented and dedicated team, led by CEO Liz Gillies and Sarah Jenkins, the Foundation’s Strategic Communications Manager, who served as my mentor throughout my time there.

My role at Menzies Foundation provided me with a unique chance to learn and grow in ways I never imagined. It allowed me to gain valuable skills and knowledge, not only in the fields of philanthropy and leadership, but also in self-discovery, as I was able to examine my own innermost values and aspirations. I am confident that these experiences will be invaluable as I continue on my professional journey.

My tenure at Menzies Foundation was not only enriching professionally but also personally. I was able to witness and contribute to the success of a remarkable organisation that is dedicated to contributing to the greater good.  This experience has instilled in me a deep appreciation for philanthropy and leadership, and I am eager to further my understanding in these fields in the future.

In January 2022, I began my journey at Menzies Foundation as an intern during my final year of University, studying a Bachelor of Media and Communications. I now leave to explore my personal aspirations, including my desire to travel and immerse myself in different cultures, currently preparing to embark on a journey to Asia and Europe to fulfill this dream.

As I embark on this new chapter, I will carry with me the lessons and experiences gained during my time at Menzies Foundation. I am confident that these will serve me well in my future endeavors. I would like to extend my warmest wishes to Charlotte Zelouf, my successor, and I look forward to observing how she continues to drive the Foundation’s mission and vision forward.
