From the CEO

The Foundation's momentum continues to build as we proceed with exciting strategic initiatives and programs. 

In September, the Menzies Science Entrepreneur Fellowship Program was launched in partnership with CSIRO's ON Accelerator. We were delighted to announce the inaugural Menzies Science Entrepreneur Fellows at the recent CSIRO ON Impact Awards. Read on to learn about our new Menzies Science Entrepreneur Fellows. 

The Ninian Stephen Menzies Cyber Law Program continues to focus on facilitating Australia’s response to complex legal challenges in a global context. There are a raft of exciting activities in line with these initiatives in the next few weeks and we would be delighted for you to join us. Please see details below. 

The Menzies School Leader Fellowship Program continues to forge ahead as the fellows gain a better understanding of themselves as leaders and a fuller appreciation of the complexity in their role. I invite you to learn more about Karen Snibson, Collier Fellow and integral member of Menzies School Leader Fellowship Program, as she provides insight into her role as a school leader. In further news, I am delighted to announce the new partnership with Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). They join the Menzies School Leader Fellowship Program as the primary research partner for this initiative.

I am pleased to confirm the recent patronage of His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), Governor-General of Australia. We are delighted that he has accepted our invitation and we look forward to working together to raise the profile and importance of 'outstanding' leadership for Australia.

The Foundation’s August Board meeting endorsed a number of exciting new initiatives and I look forward to sharing exciting new collaborations and programs with you over the coming months.

Menzies Science Entrepreneur Fellows Announced

On Wednesday 11th September, the Menzies Science Entrepreneur Fellowship Program partners; CSIRO held the ON Impact Awards, recognising and celebrating the diversity of the ONTribe Alumni and the value they create for Australia and the world. The evening culminated in the announcement of the recipients of the prestigious Menzies Science Entrepreneur Fellowship. As part of this Fellowship, three top ON alumni were awarded $90 000 to accelerate their entrepreneurial journey towards impact.

We are pleased to announce, and congratulate the successful candidates, Dr Melony Sellars, Dr Simon Gross and Dr Jinghua Fang. Learn more about our new Menzies Science Entrepreneur Fellows. 

This Fellowship Program focuses on improving Australia’s innovation performance by supporting scientists in building their enterprise entrepreneurial competencies, collaborating more with industry and the broader innovation system to address global challenges. The ON program fast-tracks Australian science and technology into real-world impact.

Ninian Stephen Menzies Law Program

One of the Foundation’s key strategic areas of focus is supporting Australia to grapple with complex legal challenges in a global context. Our focus for the next three years is cyber security. We welcome you to learn more about our Ninian Stephen Menzies Cyberlaw Program and furthermore invite you to the upcoming events supporting this initiative.

Threatcasting Workshop and Menzies Oration Series

Menzies Foundation in partnership with the University of Melbourne, will deliver the 2019 Menzies Oration, presented by Professor Brian David Johnson, Futurist, Arizona State University, on the important topic The Future of Risk, Security and the Law.

Professor Johnson will run a Threatcasting Workshop leading up to the Oration to explore the challenges of resolving transnational legal cyber security threats and disputes in uncertainty and complexity, amplified by the pace of technological change.

Following the Threatcasting Workshop and Oration, a Public and Technical Report will be released to capture insights and continue to support Australia’s capacity to build cyber resilience.

Cyber Week

The Foundation believes it is vital that Australia takes a leading role in building legal expertise to grapple with increasingly complex cyber threats; and with that, the Menzies Foundation are delighted to be partnering with AustCyber as we focus on cyber resilience in ASEAN and the Pacific.

Offering further insight into this conversation, Cyber Week 2019 launches Monday 7th October. AustCyber, the Menzies Foundation and Cyber Security Cooperative Research Centre invite you to join AustCyber’s CEO Michelle Price and Professor Johnson for a fireside chat to discuss the role of strategy, futurist thinking and threatcasting in the evolution of the Australian cyber security sector.

Menzies Alumni update

With over 250 Menzies Alumni now working in a diverse range of fields, the Menzies Alumni Association is eager to bring the cohort together with more regular opportunities to catch up and share ideas. August 2019, Menzies Foundation CEO, Liz Gillies was delighted to accept an invitation from Bank Indonesia Institute where she participated in an international forum at the 4th International Leadership Seminar, Medan Indonesia. Here, she contributed to conversations on ‘Transformational Leadership through Catalytic Collaboration in the Digital Era’.
