Not for Profit Executive: Matt Tyler joins the Menzies Foundation Board

20-Aug-2021

The Menzies Foundation is delighted to announce Not for Profit Executive, Matt Tyler, will join the Board.

Mr Tyler is the Executive Director of The Men’s Project at Jesuit Social Services, where he is committed to providing leadership on the reduction of violence and other harmful behaviours prevalent among boys and men.

Board Chair, Peter Jopling AM QC said Matt’s dedication to the for-purpose sector provides deep insight and perspective in supporting the work of the Foundation as it raises the profile and importance of 'outstanding' leadership for Australia.

The 2015 Harvard Menzies Scholar will also take up the role of Menzies Alumni Representative where he will serve a three year term on the Foundation’s Board.

‘’The Menzies Foundation Board is seeking to make a contribution to the global leadership conversation and Matt will play a pivotal role in that dialogue whilst supporting his fellow Menzies Foundation Alumni,’’ Mr Jopling said.

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to join the Menzies Foundation Board and, in doing so, make a contribution to an organisation that provided me with the financial support that made my studies at Harvard possible” Matt said. Matt also shared that “Thanks to the work of Liz and others, the Menzies Foundation has a bold vision enabling Australian leaders to address our most pressing national challenges. I’m looking forward to being part of progressing this catalytic work”.

The Menzies Foundation places considerable importance on the power of one’s connection to purpose and the commitment to leadership for the greater good to create a flourishing life.

Mr Jopling said that Matt, a Hobsons Bay City Councillor, brings a social purpose lens to the considerations of the Menzies Foundation Board as they continue to encourage people to reflect on leadership and build their own leadership capability.

Matt Tyler was formerly a Fellow for Harvard’s Government Performance Lab, an economist on Australia’s foreign aid program focused on South-East Asia, a strategy consultant for some of Australia’s largest companies, and a researcher on an Australian Research Council grant seeking to improve Indigenous Australian men’s health.

He holds a Master of Public Policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School, Honours in Economics (University Medal) from Monash University, and a B.A (Psychology) / B.Comm (Finance) from the University of Melbourne.
